CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- City officials have lodged their objections to the state legislature's latest 'power grab,' further wresting control of public education from the public. All members of council and Mayor Kahlil Seren jointly sponsored a Feb. 21 resolution opposing Ohio Senate Bill 1, which they say would transfer most of the power and duties from the state Board of Education to the governor. Council heard from District 11 elected state board member Meryl Johnson, a Beachwood Democrat, who noted that she 'used to represent' Cleveland Heights, at least up until a few months ago.
